What the notice says about how you look

  • Spectacles Allowed, on a condition

    Permitted only when reflections are absent and eyes are clearly visible.

  • Caps and head coverings Allowed, on a condition

    Caps/hats/dark glasses are not acceptable; religious headwear is allowed if it does not cover the face.

  • Colour Required

    A colour photograph — black and white will not be accepted.

  • Eyes Required

    Both eyes open and clearly visible.

  • Pose Required

    Face the camera straight on — no side or three-quarter angle.

How the notice says to prepare it

JPG/JPEG; 20-50 KB; 200 x 230 pixels preferred; approximately 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm; 200 dpi where stated. Light/white background; face clearly visible.

What may be rejected

By the examination authority

  • Shadows on the face or background are not accepted.
  • Non-frontal or side-facing pose can fail the stated requirement.
  • Eyes must be visible/open as stated.
  • Spectacle glare, dark or coloured glasses can make the photograph unacceptable.
  • Caps/hats are restricted; any permitted religious covering must leave required facial features visible.
  • Unclear photograph, signature, thumb impression or declaration can lead to rejection.
